Utah activist claims he was only documenting the U.S. Capitol insurgency

WASHINGTON – A Utah resident who was among those who violated the United States Capitol on Wednesday said he was only there to document the event.

John Sullivan, a civil rights activist, claims he attended the protest and broke into Capitol Hill with Trump supporters only to give an accurate view of what was going on.

“I was there to record,” Sullivan said in a video posted on Periscope Friday. “I was there to allow people to see this situation in the best possible way.”

Sullivan is the founder of Insurgence USA, an activist group formed after the murder of George Floyd in the summer of 2020.

“We want to build local powers to allow the community to intervene in the violence decreed by the state and the government militias. Our mission is the unification of our nation because a united people will never be divided.” indicates the group on its website.

Sullivan said Fox News he attends protests across the country to record what is happening, but has not been actively involved in the insurgency in Washington, although he has admitted to climbing through a window to access the Capitol.

Sullivan has said he does not support Trump or Biden, and although he believes black lives matter, he is not a member of the Black Lives Matter organization.

“I just wanted to be able to show people what it was like, and I knew that I would be able to get the truth and the foreground and be able to show you, I’m talking to these people, I’m talking to these people in the crowd, but I can’t tell you that I agree with the Trump or MAGA supporters, ”Sullivan said. “I can tell you no.”

Sullivan said he was close to Ashli Babbitt when she was shot and killed in the Capitol building, but being able to show her dead was why he was in Washington.

“How would you have a clear view of this woman being shot by this officer who was there and she was dying?” Sullivan asks in the video. “What proof or evidence, other than the body camera video which can be easily removed.”

“This is what everyone needed to see.”

Sullivan goes on to say that his documentation refutes those who claim that the Antifa members dressed as Trump supporters are in fact the ones who invaded the building.

“In my pictures, clear as the day, Antifa is not there to do this.” said Sullivan, who added that he was not a member of Antifa.

Sullivan, who spoke from a hotel room in Washington, says he has been detained and questioned by the FBI and has been protesting since the protests, but has not been charged with any felony.

In June, Sullivan was arrested for organizing a demonstration in Provo where one person was shot dead.
