High school football: Michael O’Brien’s Super 25 ranking for week 9

Another calm week in Super 25. Hersey, who had been classified since preseason, collapses after losing to Prospect.

The Knights take Hersey’s place. It’s unclear what exactly to do with the Mid-Suburban League this season. Several traditional high-level programs are going through difficult years. We’ll find out soon enough, the playoff field is out in just a few days.

There are a number of Catholic League major games on Friday, including No.1 Loyola at No.11 Mount Carmel, No.4 Brother Rice at No.12 Marist, and No.23 Fenwick at No.10 St Ignatius.

I am inclined to watch the Fenwick-Iggy match. I haven’t seen either team yet and Fenwick has some talented players who will be contenders for the All-Area squad.

There are no Public League games scheduled for this week yet. We are waiting to receive the playoff pairings. The games will start on Thursday.
