Happy school year!

Albuquerque Public Schools Superintendent Scott Elder welcomes staff to the start of the 2022-23 school year.

Hello and welcome to the 2022-2023 school year. In case we haven’t met yet, I’m your superintendent, Scott Elder.

How are you living this school year? Excited? Anxious? Maybe a little of both?

I’m optimistic. And energized. Things feel a little more like they used to, and I welcome the return to normal, even if it’s a new kind of normal.

As I greet you today, I realize that the preparation for this school year actually began days, weeks, even months ago. Please know that I appreciate all of your time and effort.

It’s going to be a good school year because I believe in you.

I believe in you because you believe in our students and their right to a quality education in a safe and welcoming environment.

That’s public education, isn’t it?

I don’t have to tell you that the work is not easy. Don’t lose faith when things get tough.

Do not abandon.

Persevere.

And remember, you are not alone.

If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that humans are wired to connect. Nowhere is this truer than in our schools.

So turn to each other. Help each other. Create links.

And let’s make this school year a rewarding school year for students and staff!
